If your school employs an ECT, you must register them with an Appropriate Body. The Appropriate Body will provide independent quality assurance of the ECT's two-year induction and manage their assessments during the time period.

Our Appropriate Body fee is £200 per year per ECT. This service includes:

  • Registration of ECTs and reporting to the Teacher Regulation Agency.
  • The decision on the outcome of the statutory induction for the ECT.
  • Support for schools and ECTs who are struggling to meet the expected standards.
  • Quality assurance of assessment forms, against the Teacher Standards.
  • Email/phone support for Induction Tutors and ECTs.
  • Training and support for Induction Tutors.
  • A half day support visit where needed.
  • Access to ECT Manager.

United AB is led by Melissa Marshall, the Deputy Director of the Swindon and Wiltshire Teaching School hub. She is supported by team who cover quality assurance and supporting ECTs at risk. Testimonials

Due to the demands of the teaching profession, an Early Career Teachers‘ journey can be very complex and challenging. As an Induction Tutor, I have a profound belief in the importance of building support systems to help to navigate the potential fluctuations. Linda and Mel, our Appropriate Body representatives, have been incredibly effective allies in this process. Throughout the academic year, Linda and Mel have delivered efficient, clear, and consistent communication. Far from being a faceless arms-length body, their input has always been relevant, committed, and personal. This has ensured our coalition is as robust as possible, which is essential in such a vital developmental phase for all teachers.

- Sonny Rowe Induction Tutor, North Oxfordshire Academy. -

I rate the services of Mel and her team at United AB incredibly highly. As an appropriate body, they are very well organised, understanding of how busy schools are and give timely reminders and templates to aid the administrative side from an Induction tutor's perspective. In addition, Mel and her team are very responsive to any questions you may have at any time and we found the fidelity check an incredibly positive and helpful experience.

- Induction Tutor, Guildford High School -

Our experience of the support from the Swindon and Wiltshire Teaching School Hub (United AB) has been superb. We have consistently received swift responses to queries, excellent and well considered advice, and professional, helpful, and supportive communication. The staff with whom we have worked, have taken time to understand our school and our individual Early Career Teachers in order to provide focused feedback, clear documentation and useful signposting. Mel and Danielle have both visited us at school and their guidance and support has been invaluable. I wouldn’t hesitate to partner with them in future and highly recommend this excellent service.
