Teacher Training

You can train to teach in your local school with the Swindon & Wiltshire Teaching School Hub.

Working with our Outstanding teacher training provider, United Teaching, we provide a year-long uniquely supportive route into teaching to help you become the best teacher you can be.

What qualifications do I need?

To train to teach with us, you will need:

  • A degree grade of 2:2 or above
  • English and Maths GCSE grades of C or above
  • Science GCSE grades of C or above (if you want to teach primary)
  • A-level grades of at least BCC (or equivalent qualifications)

We'll also be looking for evidence of a positive child-centred ethos and/or some experience of working with young people. If you’re thinking about training to teach but would like to get more experience in schools first, take a look at our Future Teachers programme.

What does it cost?

We offer two routes into teaching - salaried and self-funded.

On the salaried route, you’ll be paid an unqualified teacher’s salary (currently £21,933 - £26,716) for the year. Salaried places can be very competitive, so we recommend applying as early as possible if you are thinking about taking this route.

On the self-funded route, you’ll pay your tuition fees (£9,000), but you’ll be entitled to apply for a student loan to cover fees and maintenance. There are also bursaries and scholarships of up to £29,000 available for certain subjects – you can find the most up-to-date information on the  Get Into Teaching website.
